    Biography

Practicing medicine in Sonoma County is the culmination of a life long journey for me. I am board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, a fellow of the American Congress of

Obstetrics and Gynecology, and I love my career in every way.

Born in Saudi Arabia to parents of Indian heritage, I moved to the United States in my childhood, and was naturalized as a US citizen at the age of nine. Although I am a third generation physician in my family, I am the first woman in my family to attend medical school and become a doctor.

My interest in women’s health and advocacy began early while attending Wellesley College, in Wellesley, Massachusetts, conducting research through a grant from the National Science Foundation. With the encouragement of my mentors, I sought to pursue a career that combines scientific interests and women’s health care.

In medical school at Drexel/Hahnemann University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, I studied the health related quality of life in women with HIV and presented my findings to the American Public Health Association. Through this experience, I recognized the impact that reproductive health has on a woman’s wellbeing and thereby family health and community health.

My training and work in obstetrics and gynecology on the East Coast and the Midwest at both Robert Woods Johnson University Hospital, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, allowed me the privilege to care for diverse patient populations, each with their individual reproductive health care needs. Through the scope of practice of reproductive medicine, I am highly gratified by building partnering relationships with patients, as they experience womanhood, motherhood, and menopause. I now bring my passion for women’s health to Sonoma County, where I look forward to promoting preventive health screening and treating obstetric and gynecologic conditions.

As a general obstetrician gynecologist, my areas of interest within my specialty include: pre-conception, pregnancy, labor and delivery, and postpartum care with a focus on nutrition and fitness to promote wellness during that continuum. Other interests include gynecologic cancer screening and treating menstrual disorders through non-surgical or surgical options.

Surgical options I offer my patients, include minimally invasive hysteroscopy for removal of polyps and fibroids, ablation procedures as well as laparoscopic and robotic hysterectomy. I also provide peri-menopausal related care for patients who experience natural or surgical menopause.

Through my active participation and contribution to the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology, I support advocacy for national and global women’s health initiatives. Outside of my work, I enjoy cooking international food dishes prepared with Sonoma County farm fresh produce. I also love hiking Sonoma’s beautiful parks and coastline.
