    Biography

Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, I worked in the software industry for 20 years. Many software problems can be solved by turning the computer off and back on again. While humans can’t be rebooted, losing those bad habits, reducing stress, and embracing a healthier lifestyle has given many people a new lease on life by making them feel decades younger with energy to spare.

But what if something else is going on? The solutions to both software and human problems are similar: Listen to the person who is having the problem. What are the symptoms? What makes it worse/better? What do you think is going on? By listening to each other and working together, we can discover what the problem is and develop a plan to treat it.

I believe that patients and I work together as a team to maintain their health, prevent illness, and keep existing conditions under control. Educating patients about existing and potential problems is very important to me as knowledge is power. Living healthy with a sensible diet and regular exercise is the ideal. But for me, like many of us, it’s a challenge when we have competing demands on our time like working, going to school, maintaining a marriage/relationship, and taking care of children, grandchildren, and parents. I like to work with patients to find the one or two things they can change in their diet and/or exercise regimen to make big improvements on their health.

During my spare time, I read voraciously, travel, do cross stitch, and enjoy spending time with my kids, grand-dogs, and grand-cats. I am slowly learning how to do home improvements. And I love all things ’geek’, from Star Trek TOS to Dr Who and Rogue One. Let's live long and prosper together! There's nothing in the 'verse that can stop us.
