Ways to Give
Giving matters. Your gift to Petaluma Valley Hospital provides the financial support
required to make essential improvements, introduce medical innovations,
offer the latest healing technology and create the most caring environment.
There are many ways to give, including outright gifts of cash, property
or securities, corporate grants, bequests, gifts from a retirement account,
life income gifts, or employer matching contributions. Find the type of
gift that works best for you that matches your personal budget or long-term
financial plan.

The IRA Charitable Rollover
The
IRA Charitable Rollover is now a permanent provision of the federal tax code. This is good news
as it allows donors who are age 70 ½ or older to make a tax-free
contribution to Petaluma Valley Hospital or other charities. You can give
up to $100,000 in each year from your IRA. The contribution counts towards
your Required Minimum Distribution. It does not generate either taxable
income or a charitable tax deduction for you. A gift from your IRA provides
an excellent opportunity to make a gift during your lifetime from an asset
that is often subject to multiple layers of taxation if left in your estate.
Transfers must be made directly from a traditional IRA account by your
IRA plan administrator. Gifts from 401 (k), 403 (b), SEP or other plans
do not qualify for this provision. Contact your plan administrator to
initiate a gift from your IRA.
Planned Gifts
When you include a gift to Petaluma Valley Hospital in your estate plans,
you help advance our mission for many years to come.
A
charitable
bequest through your will or trust is both easy and versatile and provides tax
relief if your estate is subject to estate tax.
You can also obtain income enhancement opportunities during your lifetime
as well as substantial tax benefits by making a gift of stock, property
or other appreciated assets using a variety of estate planning tools.
For example,
charitable gift annuities and
charitable remainder trusts can provide lifetime income for you or others that you designate, and can
help you avoid capital gains and inheritance taxes. The
gift of your home via a
Life Estate Reserved, allows you to live in the home for life, but enjoy a significant tax
deduction during your lifetime.
Please let us know if you have already included Petaluma Valley Hospital
in your estate plans. If you have, we would like to thank you for your
generosity and commitment to the hospital.
